A Brazilian Blow Dry is a semi-permanent hair smoothing treatment designed to eliminate frizz, reduce volume, and leave your hair looking sleek, shiny, and more manageable.

It works by temporarily sealing a liquid protein and a preservative solution into the hair using a flat iron, which smooths the cuticle and enhances shine without changing your natural hair texture.

The technique has many variations and is known by several other names and brands, including Brazilian Blowout, Brazilian Straightening, and Brazilian Keratin Treatment.

While formulations may vary, the result is the same: smoother, glossier hair that’s easier to style and resistant to humidity — with results that typically last up to three months.

At Keratins of Kent, I use the professional application method taught by Belle Academy, one of the UK’s leading hair and beauty training providers. This ensures every treatment is carried out with precision, safety, and salon-quality results — in the comfort of your own home.

Here’s how the process works:

I then apply the keratin smoothing solution — a specially formulated treatment containing liquid protein and a preservative solution — to each section. This formula strengthens and smooths the hair from the inside out.

Once fully applied, your hair is blow-dried until completely dry. Then, using a professional flat iron at the correct heat setting, the treatment is sealed into the hair shaft, locking in shine, reducing frizz, and improving manageability. This heat-activated step is what gives the treatment its long-lasting smoothing effect.

The result? Shinier, smoother, more manageable hair that resists frizz, cuts down styling time, and lasts for up to 12 weeks, depending on your aftercare routine.

Our keratin is applied on dry unwashed hair, as dry hair absorbs more keratin - it is a one-step product. You will be able to wash your hair again two hours after the keratin treatment, or alternatively you can wash your hair the next day (leaving keratin in the hair for 24 hours). Keratin is applied on dry, unwashed hair, 1 cm away from the scalp so that keratin does not come into contact with hair follicles, is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Keratin cannot cause hair loss and cannot cause any other problems with skin or scalp. After, keratin is left in the hair for 25 minutes, then it is activated; then after total of 30 minutes (development and activation phases), excess of the keratin is rinsed with water. Then the hair is blow dried, and then the keratin is sealed with straighteners. Complimentary haircut is included. If clarifying shampoo was used prior to the application of the keratin, in order to open the cuticle (in other salons) - that means that the keratin contains formaldehyde or other harmful chemicals, which during the heat produce formaldehyde. Our keratin does not contain formaldehyde and methylene glycol (and other harmful ingredients). We also use Organic Colour system and organic hair-care products.

Aftercare – Quick Guide

Before Washing Post Treatment:

Avoid washing your hair for 3 days (24-72 hours) to allow the keratin to fully bond.
Don’t tie hair, wear hats, clips, or accessories, or tuck hair behind your ears to prevent dents.
Avoid sweating, swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and heavy workouts during this period.
Avoid Sea Water and Sulfate based products.
Keep hair down; use a blow dryer and straighteners if hair gets wet.

Washing & Styling:

Use only sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to protect the keratin treatment.
After washing, apply sulfate-free hair oil or serum (such as argan oil or organic hair serum) to the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding roots.
Use a heat protectant spray before blow drying or using flat irons.
Blow dry hair into your desired style; pass flat irons once or twice for a sleek, shiny finish.
Styling products like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum and 3-Day Straight Spray (with keratin) help maintain smoothness, add shine, and protect against heat and humidity.

General Tips:

Use a silk pillowcase to reduce friction and frizz.
Avoid chemical treatments or colouring for 2 weeks after the keratin treatment.
Use a shower cap when bathing to keep hair dry and maintain the treatment.
If colouring, wait at least 2 weeks post-treatment for best results - always take advice from your hairdresser / colouring specialist.
